Stuart, FL – April 2021 – The Sparks Foundation along with the IHSAA Foundation and its Board of Directors is pleased to announce that two recipients have been selected for the inaugural Sparks Foundation Post-Graduate Tuition Scholarships. The selections were made by the IHSAA Foundation Board of Directors Scholarship Committee.
These student-athletes were nominated by their schools’ principal and athletic director. The recipients were chosen based upon a variety of criteria, which include being a first-generation post-secondary education attendee, a multi-sport athlete, participate during each year of high school, and show teamwork, leadership, and good character.
We are proud to announce that Blake Stubbs from New Albany High School and Bridget Lohrey from Shenandoah High School were selected as recipients of the 2021 Sparks Foundation Scholarship.
Blake Stubbs is set to graduate from New Albany High School with the Indiana Academic Honors Diploma, the most rigorous diploma in Indiana. Blake is a leader to all students at New Albany High School because of his success in both academics and extra-curricular activities. He has competed at the varsity level in basketball, soccer, swimming and diving, and track and field as well as being selected as an honorable mention for all-state soccer. Blake has overcome tremendous amounts of adversity outside of school and despite these obstacles, he continues to be a fantastic student-athlete with a positive demeanor. He hopes to attend Purdue University in the fall.
Briget Lohrey will graduate this spring from Shenandoah High School. During her years there she played varsity softball and volleyball. She spent two years as the captain of the softball team as well as being selected for the All-Conference team. In volleyball, she was on the All-Area First Team and the All-State Team and awarded the mental attitude award for having the highest GPA. Academically, she has been president of the National Honor Society, secretary and representative for the Student Council, a representative for Sources of Strength, and a representative for the National Art Honor Society. Bridget’s future plans are to attend Indiana University and major in nursing.
“It brings me great hope for the future of our country to be able to award these scholarships to two such deserving Indiana student-athletes.
