Stuart, FL – July 8, 2019 Team IP is proud to partner with Turnstone and the International Blind Sports Federation as the exclusive provider for decorated event apparel, branded products, and online e-commerce for the 2019 IBSA Goalball and Judo Paralympic Qualifying. This competition will provide some of the world’s best athletes with visual impairments the chance to book their ticket to the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. The event will be held at the Turnstone Center, Indiana Tech, and the Grand Wayne Center June 30th through July 10th.
Goalball was invented in 1946 by Austrian Hanz Lorenzen and German Sepp Reindle in an effort to help in the rehabilitation of blinded war veterans. In Goalball two teams of three blindfolded athletes attempt to throw a ball with bells inside into their opponent's goal net. The game was introduced to the world in 1976 at the Paralympics in Toronto, Canada and has been played at every Paralympic since.
Judo is also a very popular sport for athletes with a visual impairment. It has featured in all five editions of the IBSA World Championships and Games and has been a Paralympic sport since the Seoul '88 games. Over the last four years, the number of international athletes has increased rapidly. According to the current World Ranking List, there are more than 500 athletes from 4 continents and from almost 50 countries.
This year more than 600 athletes from 40 countries will travel to Fort Wayne in the hopes of securing a spot in the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.
